Park-and-Ride Lockers

Almost Everything You'd Want to Know About the Bicycle Lockers Leased from King County Metro

  1. Which Park-and-Rides Have Bicycle Lockers?
Metro's web page has the most up to date list of locations. Check out: http://transit.metrokc.gov/tops/bike/lockers.html
  2. How many bikes does each locker hold and what are the dimensions of the locker?
Each locker can fit one standard size bicycle. Most recumbents can be accomodated. If you want info on specifications, dimensions or any of that technical stuff, check out the webpage from Cycle-Safe, the manufacturer of the Bicycle Lockers.
  3. How much does it cost to "rent" a locker?
Metro does not currently assess a user fee but they do ask for a $50 key deposit. The $50 is refunded in full once the locker key is returned.
  4. Will the key I receive open lockers other than the one to which I'm assigned?
Your key will only open the locker to which you have been assigned.
  5. What happens if I use the locker to store things other than my bike, such as furniture or household items that won't fit in my apartment?
If we learn that you are using the locker as a free storage space, you automatically lose your key deposit and we will charge you a fee for rekeying the lock and also for having to clear the locker out so someone else can use it.
  6. Why does Metro offer this service?
It's part of their mission. Metro seeks to "provide the best possible public transit services that get people on the bus and improve regional mobility and quality of life in King County...but Metro is more than buses. For nearly 30 years, Metro has been committed to providing environmentally healthy and energy-wise transportation." And that means they promote bicycling, especially bicycling in combination with transit.
  7. How do I become a locker user?
First call us at 206-224-9252 and ask to have a lease mailed to you. Indicate which park and ride you want, too. We will mail you a contract to sign and return along with that $50 key deposit. After we receive your signed contract and the deposit we will send you a locker key.
  8. Do you also rent clothing lockers?
We don't, but if you're looking for advice on the kind of lockers typically found in a fitness center locker room (rather than cycling lockers) check out BAW's Locker Information.
