Ever pull up to a Traffic Light that you know is not going
to change, just because you are on a bicycle?
Here's what you can do:
First, look for the magnetic loop cut into the pavement
and be sure your bicycle is aligned directly over the loop,
not the center of it.
If you are in the City of Seattle, look for a "T"
-they sometimes paint them where you should place your wheel.
It works!! In Bellevue they paint an "X" for the
same purpose. In Port Townsend there is a small bicycle symbol
to indicate where your bike should be to trigger the light.
If the light will not change for bicycles at all, it can
be adjusted - call the city or county DOT. In Seattle you
can contact Pauh Wang at Pauh.Wang@Seattle.gov.
Give him exact specifics of the intersection, cross street
and direction. Usually he can get the light adjusted and even
get a "T" painted!
